Kindheit und Jugend verbrachte Marie Alexandra, von regelmäßigen Aufenthalten auf Schloss Salem und in Gmunden/Österreich abgesehen, in Karlsruhe. Hier hatte ihr Vater 1899 anlässlich seiner bevorstehenden Vermählung mit Prinzessin Marie Louise das &lt;lex id=&quot;ABCDE&quot;&gt;XYZ&lt;/lex&gt;Palais Schmieder (heute &lt;lex id=&quot;ABCDE&quot;&gt;XYZ&lt;/lex&gt;Prinz-Max-Palais) in der &lt;lex id=&quot;ABCDE&quot;&gt;XYZ&lt;/lex&gt;Karlstraße 10 gekauft. 1924 heiratete sie Prinz Wolfgang von Hessen, einen ausgebildeten Bankkaufmann und seit 1918 Kandidat für die Thronfolge in Finnland. Die Ehe blieb kinderlos. Bei einem Luftangriff auf Frankfurt am 29.
