V. (IFC) ausgerichteter Flohmarkt in Karlsruhe. Er findet jährlich an drei Tagen im Januar (Donnerstag-Samstag) statt. Die Schirmherrschaft übernimmt traditionell der amtierende &lt;lex id=&quot;ins-1014&quot;&gt;Oberbürgermeister&lt;/lex&gt;.<br /> <br /> Die auf dem Pfennigbasar angebotenen Waren werden von den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern gespendet. Hierfür finden einige Tage vor der Veranstaltung zwei oder drei Sammeltermine statt, an denen sie ihre Spenden abgeben können. Zu den gehandelten Gegenständen gehören hauptsächlich Kleidung, Bücher, Haushaltswaren, Geschirr, Schmuck, Spielzeug und Elektrokleingeräte.<br /> <br /> Waren in der Anfangszeit nur die Frauen des IFC an der Organisation und Durchführung des Pfennigbasars beteiligt, sind aufgrund des stetigen Wachstums heute circa 200 Clubmitglieder und etwa ebenso viele ehrenamtliche Helfer wie Schüler, Studenten und Freiwillige der Karlsruher Wohlfahrtsorganisationen im Einsatz.<br /> <br /> Ins Leben gerufen wurde der Pfennigbasar 1968 zur Finanzierung des deutsch-amerikanischen Studenten- und Schüleraustauschs durch den Verband der Deutsch-Amerikanischen Clubs, in dem der IFC organisiert ist. Heute werden 80% der Erlöse an verschiedene Projekte bzw. Organisationen, wie den Studenten- und Schüleraustausch und die sozialen Einrichtungen der Stadt Karlsruhe, verteilt. Erster und langjähriger Veranstaltungsort des Pfennigbasars war die &lt;lex id=&quot;ins-1455&quot;&gt;Nancyhalle&lt;/lex&gt;. Aus Platzgründen erfolgte 2005 die Verlegung in die &lt;lex id=&quot;ins-1454&quot;&gt;Schwarzwaldhalle&lt;/lex&gt;.<br /> <br /> Im Laufe seiner knapp 50-jährigen Geschichte hat der Pfennigbasar eine enorme Entwicklung durchgemacht. Wurden bei seiner Premiere 1968 8.800 DM eingenommen, wurde 2015 ein Erlös von 160.000 € erzielt.
