Im Mittelalter, möglicherweise auch schon seit der Römerzeit, bildete sie mehrere Jahrhunderte lang eine bedeutende Verbindung zwischen Durlach und Langensteinbach, wo sie auf die einstige Römerstraße Pforzheim – Ettlingen stieß. Unmittelbar an der Straße wurde der bereits 1556 urkundlich erwähnte Batzenhof auf Baden-Durlach‘scher Gemarkung errichtet. Da er an der Landesgrenze zur Markgrafschaft Baden-Baden (<lex id="top-2680">Stupferich</lex>) und zum Fürstentum Württemberg (<lex id="top-1019">Grünwettersbach</lex>) lag, diente der Schankwirt lange Zeit auch als Zollwächter. Mit dem Bau neuer Verbindungsstraßen besonders in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts verlor die Ochsenstraße ihre Bedeutung. </div></td>

Die Ochsenstraße im Karlsruher Stadtteil <lex id="top-0558">Durlach</lex> zweigt bei dem Alten- und Pflegeheim Aaron von der <lex id="top-2328">Rittnertstraße</lex> ab und führt durch ein Tal und zur inzwischen geschlossenen Mülldeponie Ost. Von dort führt sie als Feldweg nach Süden weiter. Sie ist eine ehemalige Landstraße, die auch mit Ochsengespannen befahren wurde. In der Beschreibung der Grenzen der Durlacher Stadtgemarkung von 1683 heißt es "gegen der Oxenstras". Zur Geschichte der Ochsenstraße gibt es auf dem <lex id="top-2680">Stupfericher</lex> Kulturwanderweg (Tafel 11) eine Beschreibung.<br />
